Celebration

Lyrics

I think you wanna come over
Yeah I heard it through the grapevine
Are you drunk or you sober
Think about it, doesn't matter
And if it makes you feel good then I say do it
I don't know what you're waiting for

Feel my temperature rising
There's too much heat I'm gonna lose control
Do you want to go higher, get closer to the fire
I don't know what you're waiting for

Come join the party, yeah
'Cause everybody just won't do
Let's get this started, yeah
'Cause everybody wants to party with you

Boy you got a reputation
But you're gonna have to prove it
I see a little hesitation
Am I gonna have to show you
That if it feels right, get on your marks
Step to the beat boy that's what it's for

Put your arms around me
When it gets too hot we can go outside
But for now just come here, let me whisper in your ear
An invitation to the dance of life

Come join the party, it's a celebration
'Cause anybody just won't do
Let's get this started, no more hesitation
'Cause everybody wants to party with you

Haven't I seen you somewhere before
You look familiar
You wanna dance, yeah
I guess I just don't recognize you with your clothes on
What are you waiting for

Come join the party, it's a celebration
Anybody just won't do
Let's get this started, no more hesitation
'Cause everybody wants to party with you

Come join the party, it's a celebration
Anybody just won't do
Let's get this started, no more hesitation
'Cause everybody wants to party with you

Boy you've got it, it's a celebration
'Cause anybody just won't do
Let's get it started, no more hesitation
'Cause everybody wants to party with you

Boy you've got it
'Cause anybody just won't do
Let's get it started, no more hesitation
'Cause everybody wants to party with you

Single

Celebration, the single This dance song is the first single from Madonna's 2009 greatest hits album Celebration. It was made available on iTunes as a digital download on July 31, 2009 following its early premiere in most countries. In the UK it was released as a digital/physical single on September 14. Though only reaching #71 in the Billboard Hot 100, the single scored many top-10 positions in international territories: #1 in Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Italy and Sweden; #2 in the European Hot 100 and in France; #3 in Norway and the UK, #5 in Canada, Germany and Japan.

Remixers of the song were done by Benny Benassi, Chris Lake, Felguk, Johnny Vicious and Oakenfold himself. The single cover features shots by Steven Klein, from the Brazil photoshoot in December 2008.

Video

Celebration, the video Madonna filmed the video in Milan, Italy in mid-July, during her Italians stops of the Sticky & Sweet Tour. Her official site encouraged fans to appear on the set, wearing Madonna memorablia. Fans were also filmed after the Barcelona show, where they had to dance to Celebration in front of blue screens. The world premiere of the video took place on September 1 and it was available as a free iTunes download for 48 hours. The first version of clip features Madonna's daughter Lourdes, boyfriend Jesus Luz and all of the Sticky & Sweet Tour dancers. Set to the Benny Benassi remix, Madonna and her company show off funky dance moves with a steamy lip lock between Madonna and Jesus. This version features on the Celebration Video Collection.

On September 18, a second version of the video premiered online, that features Madonna's fans recreating various images of her career, along with daughter Lourdes in the Like A Virgin wedding dress.

Tour

Celebration @ MDNA Tour Being her most recent dance single, it was the obvious encore to close the MDNA Tour. After the Like A Prayer singalong, the lights go out and suspense is build up by illuminating the square stage boxes. The video screens show 3D squares and boxes, amplified by white strobe lights, making the venue look like a large labyrinth. First Madonna comes on stage, taking her place on the highest stage block in the center, then the dancers join her, all dressed in colourful shirts to contrast the black & white decor. They're all wearing headsets, giving them the appearance of a deejay. Rocco takes his place too right in front of Madonna's block. Serving the tradition of a tour closer, they all get into an intense dance routine. The Benny Benassi remix, already familiar after being used in the music video, is a perfect fit. Starting from the American leg, Madonna further spices up the performance by adding several lines of Give It 2 Me.
