Synopsis
Madonna has always had a special relationship with the media.
While many stars try desperately to avoid paparazzi's, Madonna
has the power to manipulate the media to her advantage. In the
over-exposure of her Erotica
period, she decided to give director Alek Keshishian carte
blanche to film her during her Blond
Ambition Tour. The result is a controversial rockumentary
with liveperformances (filmed in colour) and backstage scenes
(in black & white).
Rating
Together with the Erotica
album, the Sex book and later Body
Of Evidence, this rockumentary played a major part in the
controversy that surrounded Madonna in the early 90s. Question
is if we finally get to see the real Madonna here, or if it's
just another of her images? Through-out the movie, Madonna is
always well-aware of the camera, sometimes to the extent that
she behaves as unnatural as in her other movie parts. Still, the
movie was an interesting combination of music performances and
behind-the-scenes footage, and was at the time revolutionary for
the genre of rockumentaries. 7/10
