Body Shop

Lyrics

With all these curves we might need
To have the brakes looked at
So pop the hood and see what's good
I need a tune-up bad

My pressure's low, I'm on a roll
But my transmission's blown
I heard a thump, and then a knock

I hear you work at a body shop
I hear you work at a body shop

You can keep it overnight
You can do whatever you like
Working overtime
Working on the line

You can polish the headlights
You can smooth out the fender
You can start the ignition
We can go on a bender

Stuck to the seat, our body heat
What will you do with this ass
Let's shift the gears, get outta here
We're stepping on the gas
We gotta bounce, we're going fast
Let's let the seat go back
You take the wheel
I'll sit on top

I hear you work at a body shop
I hear you work at a body shop

You can keep it overnight
You can do whatever you like
Working overtime
Working on the line

You can keep it overnight
You can do whatever you like
Working overtime
Working on the line

Overheating the engine
Might be blowin' a gasket
Tighten up the suspension
And you don't have to ask it

I hear you work at a body shop
I hear you work at a body shop

I would drive to the ends of the earth for you
Jumpstart my heart, you know what you gotta do
I would ride through the dark of the night with you
Cross my heart and hope to die, it's true

You can keep it overnight
You can do whatever you like
Working overtime
Working on the line

You can keep it overnight
You can do whatever you like
Working overtime
Working on the line

I hear you work at a body shop
I hear you work at a body shop
I hear you work at a body shop
I hear you work at a body shop

Song

In an interview, Madonna spoke about this song:
"I was working with Toby Gad, who spent a lot of time in India. There's a sitar [in "Body Shop"] and the song has a very Indian flavor to it. I liked the idea of the body of a car as a kind of sexual metaphor — What you do to a car, what you do in a car — drive. So, lots of innuendos, and lots of fun. And we all love a really cute mechanic, right?"

Tour

Body Shop @ Rebel Heart TourA peculiar choice for a live performance, Madonna opened the second segment of the Rebel Heart Tour with Body Shop in a literal depiction of the lyrics. Dressed up in the classy Rockabilly-inspired creation of Arianne Phillips, Madonna enters the stage on the front end of a car in a garage setting, immediately recalling the mood of John Travolta's Greased Lightning number. Next to tires and gas pumps Madonna glides through the song with her heavily auto-tuned vocals alongside her gal pals and the mechanic boys, with one of them showing his six pack at her bidding. The first speech of the night would typically follow the carefree song, before she goes deeper in her 1950s love story.
